<image:caption>This is the dim sum cart of dance classes with a rotating cast of some of Portland’s most interesting contemporary dancer/choreographers who typically don’t teach. It’s also an invitation to dance in the inner circle of the contemporary PDX dance scene because really, HEAVY ROTATION addresses this core (not corps) group of Players–innovative movement thinkers/performers–giving them a way to dance with, inspire, learn from each other that’s outside of rehearsal or performance. – Lisa Radon, ultra pdx</image:caption>

TAKAHIRO YAMAMOTO What does it feel to observe impermanence? Why do we forget things? How can time be related to space, mind, body, and objects? Through the lens of the ubiquitous yet profound notion of time, this workshop invites you to investigate various time-oriented notions such as duration, repetition, ephemerality, movement, ritual, attention, changes, stillness, futility, suspension, speed, history, and more. Using the approach of mind and body integration, I will facilitate a space to think and intellectualize physical movement-based exercises that feels, senses, and moves with theoretical and poetic discourses about time. SUNITI DERNOVSEK In class we enter into a creative process that exists in the body and is in collaboration with place. When we dance, we dance together with the floor, walls, past and present. We engage with the ground to move through space and into edges. Meandering, wandering, getting lost, and exploring phrases, we find new ways to move. NOELLE STILES Meditate, commune, play in movement. This class will incorporate gentle warm-ups (floor/standing), some improvisation, and short phrase work. The focus will be on creating space for self-awareness and expression, cultivating inward and outward presence, simply dancing in a room together, having fun, and sharpening some skills. You'll feel the influences of good ol' fashioned modern dance class structures, release techniques, improvisation strategies, Yoga, and a range of somatic alignment-based and energetic modalities. MUFFIE DELGADO CONNELLY Unmaking: Processes for Remembering In this class, we will dance into worlds of entanglement, drawing inspiration from the intricate agilities of octopi, the ambitious growth patterns of vining plants, and the rhythmic suspensions of swells of the ocean. Through somatic inquiry, improvisational exploration, and dance, we will be guided by the organic happenings of circles, spirals, waves, and the infinite possibilities they hold.</image:caption>

Effective marketing for an artist requires a study of who they are and what they want from their art practice and career. Working from this philosophy, we’ll touch topics that span website design, marketing plans, social media, guerrilla marketing, press relations, identifying and retaining audience/s, and communicating your work. We will cover a range of concepts and best practices so that participants can take away tactics that make representing, discussing, and effectively marketing their work an authentic extension of their creative professional practice. You're invited to bring your burning marketing questions and aspirations for a workshop designed with dialogue and exchange in mind. *RACC is happy to work with you if the cost of the workshop is prohibitive. <image:caption>ED. 1, Moves When Folded Opening Letter Welcome to FRONT. The pages in your hands are an offering of affection and imagination. FRONT is devoted to diving into the depths of our tangled affections for contemporary dance and harnessing the collective imagination of those who share these affections. FRONT is dedicated to creating an expansive container for capturing the swell of contemporary discourse surrounding the form. It is a space for the movement of ideas. We thank you for allowing them to find a curve, pursue a line, and swing freely through your consideration. We have titled our inaugural edition, Edition 1: Moves When Folded. Collapse , double over, create space, open up, and turn the pages. We have started, in part, by beginning to capture a snap shot of our community; a chorus of voices speaking to their own conceptions of and connections to dance and performance. This is an ongoing project. Our design is to offer a publication that is open to a spectrum of contributors willing to take on the satisfying responsibility of stewarding FRONT ever forward. Writing about dance forces a fundamental issue, the lack of a neat tailoring of defined language. We wrestle with and fully bask in this reality here. We invite you to do the same. It allows me to actually move forward in the work I want to do” - Wendy Hambidge What began as a discrete project to refresh Living In the Body’s marketing materials has grown into working with Wendy on everything from her research, archiving, and writing to marketing and performance documentation. We’re currently putting the final gestures on her Living in the Body logo and completing a series of grant applications to support her evolving collaboration with Brazilian-based dance artists Damaris Web and Jorge Samuel Faria. C.V.S. is proud to report over 12K in support received from fundraising strategies and grants writing for this project. (Thank you RACC, OAC, Ronni S. Lacroute Fund, and individual donors!) ——- CVS has been working closely with movement educator and therapist Wendy Hambidge to refresh her marketing tools and website.
